Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services FAQ’s

Where is Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services located and what are the hours of operation?

Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services is located at the WELL on the southside of campus, in front of Hornet Stadium. We are open during the fall and spring semesters M-TH 8:00am-5:00pm, Fridays 9:30am-4:30pm. Our last appointments are scheduled 30 minutes prior to closure. We are open during the summers M-TH 7:30am-4:00pm, Fridays 9:00am-4:00pm.

Does my health fee cover my visit to Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services?

Yes, all currently enrolled students who pay health fees as part of their tuition are eligible to access services at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services. Most of our services are available for FREE or at low-cost. Additional fees may apply to specialty services, procedures, vaccines, medications, and lab testing.

Any services received off campus are the financial responsibility of the student.

How can I schedule an appointment at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services?

At student health, we offer services both in-person and telehealth appointments. To schedule an appointment, contact Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services at 916-278-6461 or book online through your Patient Portal.

Is health insurance required to access services at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services?

Health insurance is not required to use services at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services and we are not an insurance provider. Students who have health insurance may have the option to bill their health insurance for certain services and medications prescribed at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services.

What medical/clinical services are provided at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services?

Our clinical services include Urgent Care and Primary Care which includes services such as well-person exams (physicals), acute illness and injury care, lab testing, immunizations and vaccines, women’s health exams, etc., Nutrition Counseling, Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. What mental health services are available at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services?

We offer a variety of mental health services at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services including:

Individual Therapy – short-term individual counseling with a licensed mental health clinician.

Group Therapy – a variety of groups are offered each semester, such as queer connect, coping with loss, strategies to cope with ADHD, etc. In group therapy 5-10 students meet with a counselor to talk about the issues they are facing and learn new skills. Research shows that group therapy is just as effective as individual therapy and often leads to faster progress.

Urgent Care Counseling – Crisis and Urgent Care Counselors are located at the Urgent Care Clinic on the 1st floor of The WELL. No appointment is needed to speak with an Urgent Care Counselor.

Peer Wellness Advocates – Peer Wellness Advocates (PWAs) are current students who are trained to be supportive, helpful listeners, and problem solvers. PWAs offer a non-judgmental and confidential space to discuss concerns and get mental health support. Meeting with a PWA is a great option for anyone, especially those who are not yet ready to meet with a licensed mental health professional.

How can I get care and support when Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services is closed?

Calls that are made to Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services outside of business hours will be answered by our 24-hour Nurse Advice Line.

Is there a pharmacy available on campus?

Yes, the pharmacy is located on the 1st floor of The WELL. Our pharmacy accepts prescriptions from Sacramento State Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services providers as well as outside providers in accordance with state and federal law. Students also have the option to take their prescriptions written at Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services to an outside pharmacy of their choice. If you wish to transfer a prescription to student health from out outside pharmacy, contact Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services at 916-278-6461 for more information.

HORNET HACKL: The pharmacy on campus also offers medication disposal, free condoms and safer sex supplies, over-the-counter drugstore and homeopathic products like Tylenol, band-aids, menstrual hygiene products, and more at discounted prices!

Are there confidential sexual violence support services on campus?

Yes, Sacramento State has a partnership with WEAVE to provide on-campus confidential support, advocacy, accompaniment, resource, and sexual violence prevention education. If you have experienced any form of sexual violence, please know that it is not your fault, and that there are resources on campus to help support you.

Confidential WEAVE Advocates are located at The WELL and American River Courtyard in the North Village, and they are on campus M-F from 8:30am-5:00pm. To meet with a Confidential WEAVE Advocate, contact 916-278-5850 or WEAVE@parkviewhousebb.com.

I am not feeling well, where can I go for immediate assistance?

Students in need of immediate assistance for illness or injury care, can visit the Urgent Care Clinic on the 1st floor of The WELL. No appointment is needed to meet with a provider at Urgent Care. Please be aware that our Urgent Care Clinic is not the same as an Emergency Room. If you are experiencing an life-threatening or serious illness or injury, call 911 immediately.

What vaccinations and immunizations are required for students?

California State University (CSU) requires all students to be current on a number of immunizations and to complete a risk assessment for tuberculosis (CSU Executive Order 803). All students are required to be vaccinated for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Meningococcal ACWY, and Hepatitis B.

Students who live on campus, international students, and NCAA athletes are required to have additional vaccines and immunizations. Learn more about required and recommended vaccines.
